Question Reservations, deposits and no-shows

For a very long time we had very few issues with people not showing up after making reservations. Therefore, we never took cc info on overnighters calling for a reservation. However, just in this last year we have seen an increase in no-shows. This has caused us to turn away business believing we are fully booked for the night and then ending up with empty sites. Now, we are considering requiring a cc to hold the site.

If your park takes a credit card for a reservation what do you tell the people in the case of a no-show or a late (after noon- day of) cancellation? How much do you charge them? Partial payment or full payment?

I do not like to charge someone for a site they will not use when I can rent it to someone else, but it is frustrating to see a site empty when you have turned away other tired travelers.

Take a look at our cancellation policy-

Deposit required on all reservations. Deposit may be equal to entire stay. A 7 day cancellation notice prior to your scheduled arrival date is required for RV sites, 7 days on kabins, 14 days on the cottage/lodge. There is a minimum $15.00 cancellation charge (a minimum $25.00 cancellation charge for cottage) with notice and forfeiture of entire deposit without notice.

Reservation Guarantee Deposit
A credit card deposit equal to the registration charges for your first night will be required to guarantee a reservation. The deposit will be charged at the time of reservation.

Cancellation Requirements for Deposit Refund
If you are unable to honor your reservation, you must call and cancel prior to these deposit refund cancellation deadlines:

RV or tent Site: 7 Days - To cancel your RV/Tent Site reservation, notify Shoals Bend RV Resort by 4 p.m. seven days prior to your scheduled arrival.

Cabin: 7 Days - To cancel your Cabin reservation, notify Shoals Bend RV Resort one week prior to your scheduled arrival date. (Bring your own bedding) A minimum $15.00 cancellation fee will apply.

Cottage 14 days- To cancel your cottage reservation, notify Shoals Bend RV Resort 14 days prior to your scheduled arrival date. A minimum $25.00 cancellation fee will apply.

Reservations made after deadlines will require a non-refundable deposit.

Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, the Light at the End of the Tunnel has been turned off.
