Restrictions Setup Dialog

Top  Previous  Next

Start setting up restrictions by opening the Restrictions Setup dialog (Maintenance / Park Setup / Reservation Restrictions).  This will list any already defined (if there are any), with their Description, Restriction Type, and whether it's enabled.  From here you can add or edit restrictions, delete obsolete restrictions, and move restrictions in the list.

You can also Print or Export  the shown list at any time.

Adding or Editing Restrictions

Note that the information shown for the Restrictions in the list are coming from the Restriction Definitions -- they cannot be changed directly in the list.  You need to Edit the definition to change it.

The basic procedure for defining a Restriction is to click Add restriction, and then enter the details of the Restrictions Definition including the applicable Restriction Type and parameters, along with the applicable sites, dates, etc that determine its function. Insert is the same as Add, except that the restriction will be inserted in the list at the current selection point, rather than added to the end of the list.  You can edit any of the existing restrictions by clicking on the restriction in the list and selecting Edit restriction definition, or you can double-click on the restriction in the list.

Warning -- Once a restriction is edited or deleted, there is no way to Cancel the operation -- the changes are permanent once you leave the Edit Restriction dialog and come back to the Set Up Restrictions dialog.

You can Move, Delete, or Copy one or more restrictions by selecting the restrictions in the list (Ctrl-click or Shift-click will select multiple restrictions), and then click the appropriate button.  Copying restrictions is very handy if you have groups of restrictions that are similar but have slight variations, such as sites or season dates.

Restriction Order

Restrictions are always checked top-down, from the first in the list to the last.  While the order of restrictions won't affect how each one works, there may be reasons to put them in a certain order.  For instance, you would want to put the most critical ones first (or the ones that require a higher access level to ignore or allow with a warning), so those are checked before it bothers to check lower-priority ones, especially ones that are set to "Use as a reminder only".  This will reduce the number of reminders or warnings the operator will have to confirm -- you don't want to have to click through a few routine reminders and then hit a restriction that doesn't allow you to continue anyway.

Add to or Remove date(s) from Restrictions

These functions allow you to select any number of restrictions, enter one or more dates or date ranges, and will add or remove those dates from the applicable dates for the restrictions selected.  It does so by adjusting the "Special Dates Applicable" or "Special Dates Not Applic." fields of the Restriction definition.  It won't modify the "Season Dates" setting.

Importing and Exporting Restrictions

These functions allow copying a restrictions setup from one database to another (or between computers).  This is used if you have your software provider do the setup on another system and then need to import that setup to the working database on your computer.  The Import function will only work with files exported using the Export Restrictions function here.  It cannot import restrictions from a user-created file.

The Export function creates a text (CSV) file in a special format that the Import function can read.  This can include one or more definitions (select the entry or entries to export before clicking the Export button).  To complete the export, select the location (Save in) and the file name for the exported file with the "Export" file dialog is shown.

The Import function is simply the reverse of Export -- select the CSV file containing the exported restrictions, and Open it to import the restrictions into your database.
